New government report shows growth in recreational use of Nitrous Oxide

A recent Home Office Crime Survey has shown that while illegal drug use has fallen in the UK to i8ts lowest level since records began, there has been an increase in the recreational use of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas). 

The BBC report says a spokesman stated that although it is not illegal, the laughing gas "should not be experimented with" and that "any suggestion of abuse, particularly by young people, is of concern".

The BCGA issued a leaflet of the Dangers of Industrial Gas Abuse last year which outlines the risks associated with the inhalation of Nitrous Oxide along with several other gases.

Scientific and Technical Gases plans official opening for new site on 26th June

Scientific and Technical Gases Ltd (StG) will be holding the Official Opening for its new Manufacturing Facility on Wednesday 26th June 2013.

Key customers and media representatives from BBC Radio Stoke and The Sentinel will attend the event along with StG staff. Sara Williams, Chief Executive of the North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NSCCI), will carry out the Official Opening.

Chief Executive, Chris Street said “I am very pleased to announce the official launch of StG’s new facility which was purchased with assistance from the Regional Growth Fund. The new site will greatly increase StG's production capacity and give the company a purpose-built integrated manufacturing site and offices.

With this expansion StG will continue to build and grow its already very strong UK and Export businesses, providing tailored and innovative products and services to customers globally."

The expansion scheme, phased over three years, will include the development of existing gas mixing buildings, building a new 10,000 sq ft manufacturing plant and the construction of a new global headquarters for StG. The expansion is also expected to lead to further job creation within the company with opportunities in all departments for talented individuals wishing to work for a fast-growing, innovative business with global reach.

Scientific and Technical Gases Ltd is one of the largest independent manufacturers of calibration gases in Europe. StG offers a full range of gases in both high pressure refillable cylinders and non-refillable cylinders for a variety of uses including gas detection, laboratory and analysis, and emissions monitoring along with associated equipment. StG is a finalist for the Insider Made in the Midlands Awards Dinner for Export award

StG was short-listed for the Export Award at the Insider Made in the Midlands Awards 2013. Chris Street, the Chief Executive of StG attended the Awards Dinner held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, Birmingham on Tuesday 11th June with Danny O'Neill, Sales Director and Phil Edwards, Operations Director.

StG was a finalist on the night for the award which is presented to the company deemed by the judges to be the most innovative and impressive exporter, in terms of both international presence and percentage of total sales, of products made in the Midlands.

Chris Street said 'I was very pleased that StG was short-listed for an award celebrating Export companies based in the Midlands. Being a finalist at this event, along with our recent success at the Sentinel Business Awards, reflects the hard work put in by everyone at StG in achieving growth through strong customer relationships and excellent service over the past few years. The Midlands is a great base for Manufacturing companies like StG and the region's achievements deserve to be celebrated'.

The Insider Made in the Midlands Awards are an annual event aimed at showcasing the best Midlands products, services and management and is run by Insider Media Ltd. StG recently won the International Trade and the Apprentice of the Year awards at the Sentinel Business Awards.


StG gains UVDB registered status

StG is pleased to announce it is now a registered member of the Achilles’ UVDB, the Vendor Database for Utilities Companies in the UK and overseas.  This will enable StG to offer its calibration gases and associated equipment to the Utilities industry.  StG’s details can be accessed through the database or customers can contact the office directly.
